Love-Love Tennis? Up Your Game for More Fun, Competition

Mar 31, 2025 | Backyard Courts, Tennis

Grand Slam Courts builds tennis courts (among other kinds of indoor and outdoor courts). The families that install tennis courts often find that the new court inspires changes. They long for expanded chances to compete. For more challengers. For new doubles partners. And, often they wish that they played better and could achieve a higher tennis rating.

A beautiful backyard tennis court that is yours to play on whenever you wish is a great start if you want to play more tennis and play better. Here are a few resources that may help you do both.

Tennis Lessons

One of the best places to learn to play tennis in San Antonio is The Tennis Park at Whispering Oaks. Located near the intersection of Wurzbach Road and Lockhill Selma Road, The Tennis Park offers private and group lessons for youth as well as adults. Tennis camps are offered during school holidays and during the summer months. There are adult leagues and opportunities for junior and adult USTA competition.

The Tennis Park has a total of six tennis courts. Kids who attend the summer camps also enjoy the pool at the tennis club.

For more information about the opportunities for tennis lessons and camps, visit The Tennis Park website.

Competition

There are three outstanding resources in San Antonio for getting involved in competitive tennis.

The San Antonio Tennis Association offers leagues, tournaments, and other programs out of the McFarlin Tennis Center off San Pedro Avenue in North Central San Antonio. This is the local San Antonio branch of USTA (United States Tennis Association). You can learn more about this organization by visiting the website here.

The San Antonio Tennis League is offered through the Tennis League Network. Those who sign up are matched up with other players. The players then set up times and locations for matches. Generally, those in the league will play once a week. For more information, visit the website here .

The Barshop Jewish Community Center of San Antonio also offers tennis leagues. Learn more about men’s and women’s leagues at the website here.
