How Many Sports Will Fit on a Tennis Court?

How to Get the Most From Your Court

Multi-game courts are all the rage! It’s not surprising, actually. Building a shared space court is a cost-effective way to expand the possibilities for fun and give every age a chance to enjoy backyard sports.

Grand Slam Courts most often gets requests for a court that combines half-court basketball and pickleball. But, by starting with a tennis court, you can add both pickleball and an abbreviated basketball court with goals on two ends.

A standard tennis court is 78 feet by 36 feet, while a full basketball court is 94 feet by 50 feet. You can’t accommodate a standard basketball court within a tennis court, but a common dimension for a “mini court” is 66 ft. x 36 ft., which will fit within the dimensions of a standard tennis court. A pickleball court is 44 ft. x 20 ft., so that also fits within the confines of a tennis court.

When combining multiple sports on one court, it is recommended to use different colors for each sport’s lines to avoid confusion. Tennis lines are typically white, while basketball and pickleball lines can be in another contrasting color.

The court equipment used is also important. Basketball hoops are installed at the ends of the court, and portable hoops are needed to provide safe play at both ends of the court.  There are removable or retractable tennis and pickleball nets that allow quick conversion between sports. Sometimes courts use net posts that can be easily taken down or moved.

There are also options for surfacing that can enhance a multi-game court. SnapSports™ offers a product called PickleGrip that was designed especially for racquet sports. Grand Slam Courts can install that for you or provide a standard acrylic court surface.

There are several benefits to a multi-game court. Obviously combining several sports on the same court reduces the space needed and maximizes the fun per dollar investment. It also helps ensure that the court gets more use by family members no matter their age or athletic ability.
