Adding Vibrant Color to Your Backyard

Oct 17, 2019 | Backyard Courts, SnapSports

Remember when every tennis court was green? Outdoor basketball courts were mostly gray concrete? Such is not the case today. Grand Slam Courts’ clients today can choose from an array of colors to complement their home, their landscape, or to honor their favorite teams.

The SnapSports surfaces come in a wide variety of colors including yellow, green, blue, purple, red, black, gray and white. Whatever suits your imagination and desire, we can bring to life in your backyard.

Over the years, a number of teams have attempted to get noticed by playing their home games on unusual colors. Think of Boise State University, that began playing football on a blue synthetic turf field in 1986.

Brightly colored courts are common now in the world of professional tennis. That is often an attempt to establish a brand for professional tennis tournaments. But in the years since the first non-green tennis courts were introduced, the USTA discovered that blue and purple courts make it easier for the folks watching on television to see the yellow tennis balls.

Among those building community tennis or basketball courts, we recommend choosing darker colors. Because it is difficult to control the footwear used on the court and the type of play that might take place without authorization (ie, skateboarding or rollerblading), we find that darker colors usually hide marks better.

On the other hand, darker colors will retain more heat, and in Texas that is sometimes a big consideration for our clients.

Grand Slam Courts can offer advice and guidance on colors that would best suit the area where the court will be built. And, yes, we can do an orange court.
